Brian Carlyle Hunt
It is with heavy hearts that the Hunt family announce that Brian Carlyle Hunt, 66, passed away on August 2, 2020, with his wife and children by his side.
Brian was raised in Jericho, Vermont, where he spent his childhood active in scouting, youth sports, working on the family farms, and exploring Vermont's outdoors. He graduated from Mount Mansfield Union High School where he was a standout multi-sport athlete. Brian graduated in 1976 from the University of Vermont where he was a proud member of the UVM Men's Soccer team.
A coach and educator at heart, Brian enjoyed a 39-year career as a respected physical education teacher at Malletts Bay School in Colchester. He brought the joy of physical activity to thousands of children while also serving as a positive role model and mentor to many. His desire was to encourage students and athletes to reach their full potential while feeling good about themselves in the process. His work ethic was unequaled. He set the bar high for what teaching and coaching needs to look like and should be. Brian's inspiration and dedication to teaching and coaching was matched by his kind, caring, compassionate, and gentle interaction with others, always with an easy smile. MBS alumni will remember Mr. Hunt's color-coordinated athletic attire, humor, and his enthusiastic Paper Shake Dance. He made MBS a special place.
Brian was a loving husband and proud, supportive father. Family was of utmost importance to him. Precious memories were made together on soccer fields, ski trails, tennis courts, as well as camping, biking, fishing, hunting, and family gatherings. The Hunt family enjoyed summers at their camp on Georgia Shore. Brian's happy place was out fishing on the lake. He would come back with an entertaining tale—always larger than the catch!
He leaves memories to be cherished by his wife of 41 years, Brenda Hunt of Colchester, VT. Brian also leaves behind his daughter Erica Hutchins (Ethan) of Williston, VT; his son Ryan Hunt (Elizabeth) of Jericho, VT; sisters Sandi Menard of Winooski, VT, Jill Hunt of Winooski, VT, and Lori Cook (Tom) of Florence, AZ; aunts, Gert Hunt of Jericho, VT and Celia Perge of Lewes, DE; brothers-in-law James Burke (Stephanie) of Miller Place, NY and Terrence Burke (Lynn) of Port Jefferson, NY; his sisters-in-law Maureen Burns (Michael) of Shoreham, NY; Barbara Gans of Murrells Inlet, SC, Patricia Przybylinski (Richard) of West Charleston, VT and Catherine Noel (James) of Columbia, MO; he is also survived by his two beloved grandchildren Emery and Emmett Hutchins of Williston, VT, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents Carlyle and Ruth Hunt, his in-laws James and Genevieve Burke, brothers-in-law Ray Menard and Gary Gans, and sister-in-law Carol Klebanoff.
A drive-by celebration of life will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2020, from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm at Malletts Bay School, 609 Blakley Road, Colchester, Vermont. For the safety of all, we ask that you remain in your vehicle while paying respects to Brian's family. A private burial will be held at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Jericho, Vermont.
In honoring Brian's commitment to physical activity, memorial contributions may be made to Colchester Parks and Recreation and mailed to: Colchester Parks and Recreation, Brian Hunt Memorial, 781 Blakely Road, Colchester, Vermont 05446. We also invite you to take memories of Brian on your next outdoor adventure—his spirit will be great company!

In 1977 as a new kid in 7th grade Brian was the first person I met in Colchester, the first day of junior high soccer practice. It was through soccer and Brian's warm personality and welcome that I was able to find comfort in my new home in Vermont. Brian's gentle leadership and delivery is and was unmatched and that, combined with his appreciation for his fellow human beings, made him a very special person. A great loss no doubt to his dear family but also to everyone he touched along the way.

Mr. Hunt,
I'll always remember the excitement and enthusiasm from you when it came to soccer. From the moment I met you as a fourth grader you were larger than life and there has been no other teacher that has impacted me the way you did. It was your encouragement and passion that nurtured my love for soccer that I still have too this day. Every soccer game I watch brings back memories of your dedication and commitment to all of us who played for you. If not for your love and guidance the 88' team wouldn't of been what we were. Thank you Mr. Hunt for a lifetime of memories. I will love and cherish you forever, for these memories.

In so many ways, Brian made the world a better place. His steady hand, his attention to safety and detail, his love of children and his community - all qualities that made him such a special person.
Your family doesn’t need me to tell you what an amazing person, teacher, and community member Brian was. He did indeed, make the world better and more beautiful. I pray that your memories and the love of the community sustain you through this incredibly difficult time.

The Hunt Family,
I’ve known Brian for so many years-first as my PE teacher, and later as I taught at MBS. I’ve never known a more gentle, warm and kind man. He inspired students and teachers alike. As so many have said, I fondly remember his smile, his words of encouragement, his laughter and and his quick one liners. I will miss him. My prayers are with you Brenda, and his whole family. May you find peace.

There's something to be said about the few teachers you remember vividly from your childhood. Mr. Hunt remains ingrained in my memory in all the best ways - with the brightest fondness of a teacher who made challenges fun, who made me feel like I belonged, who made me laugh, and who made me look forward to a class that normally I'd rather not attend. We were all so lucky to have him as our PE teacher. I'm so sorry for your loss. My deepest condolences go out to Mrs. Hunt and the entire family.

Very saddened to learn of Brian's passing . Our fathers were colleagues and deer hunting comrades, and our respective families grew up a mile apart . To us younger Cougars , he was a Superman ... We watched in awe as he played soccer for Mr. Reed, then we're lucky enough to catch a few games at Centennial, where he made us feel special ; that someone we knew , grew up with, and admired could play at that level. By reading the numerous posts from his many beloved students , it is obvious he was someone truly special . Thoughts and prayers for all of his family.

A true loss to the Colchester community. ‘Mr. Hunt’ was a positive influence on so many peoples’ lives, and the outpouring of support is a testament to that.
Great memories at the Georgia Shore camp, he always was inquisitive of the various hunting and fishing excursions Ryan and I were up to. He was also incredibly supportive of all of Erica’s athletic accomplishments. I always remember you both having the best gear - he really had your back!

I have known Mr. Hunt for many years. Growing up in the Neighborhood and seeing him take walks in the morning sunrise and shouting across the street "Good morning neighbor! How's it going today?" is one of the memories I will never forget. Going through Mallets Bay School was another place where I had good memories as well. Any time the class would end Mr. Hunt would always say with a smile on his face say, "That's one of my favorite neighbors." It was always a joy to see Brian and Brenda. They always helped us with CABA and the golf tournament. Ski and Skate sale was always fun with his smiling face. My son had him for a PE teacher and loved him. Brenda was his teacher and he loved her as well. Sending hugs to you Brenda. RIP Brian.

My deepest condolences to the Hunt family! I had the privilege to work with Brian at Malletts Bay School and all three of my children had the joy of having him as their P.E. teacher. May happier memories bring you comfort during this sad and difficult time.

I am so sorry to see this! So many memories at Georgia Shore with all of you and my grandparents Bernie and Bernadette Simpson at Wendy Shores and all the Hunts . LOTS of fishing tales for sure and many bonfire stories and celebrations! Hold tight to all those memories, and my thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this difficult time.
