by Linnea Crowther

Jim Pace was a sports car racing driver who won both the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1996.

Racing career

Pace began racing in 1988, debuting in the Barber Saab Pro Series. He had an early success in the 1990 24 Hours of Daytona, winning the GTU class. Six years later, Pace won Daytona and Sebring, later winning at Texas World Speedway. He also drove the 24 Hours of Le Mans that year, though he finished 33rd after transmission trouble. Recently, Pace was active in vintage and historic sports car racing, including a 2020 race at Wisconsin’s Road America during which he flipped his car in a blow-over crash. Pace walked away from the crash unhurt.
